As confirmed via his Instagram post a couple of days ago, Arsenal starlet Bayo Fapetu has signed a ‘long term deal’ with Derby County.
The Nigerian had been a regular within the Arsenal U16s set up, but is yet to play for a higher age group.
He signed for the Rams after it was made clear he wasn’t to be selected as one of the academy scholars set to make the step up at the Emirate Stadium.
Once the move had been completed, Fapetu took to social media to share his delight upon signing for his new side.
“Delighted to sign a long term deal with Derby, we give all thanks to God,” said the teenager.
He added: “Time to get to work and fulfil my dreams.”
It is believed that the new signing will initially link up with the Derby U18s, but as we have seen already, should he impress training with the academy, he shall get his opportunity with the U23s and perhaps even the first team if he’s deemed suitable.
An interesting rumour has emerged from All Nigeria Soccer today, as they claim that Premier League clubs were keen on signing Fapetu after learning that Arsenal were letting him go.
Fapetu picked Derby, and the Rams will now hope that he is a star of the future having won the race for him.
