Appearing on a recent episode of the Steve Bloomer’s Washing podcast, Telegraph journalist John Percy stated that there was interest in Derby County from a ‘dream consortium’ with links to a top football agent.

“I’ve been told that the other two – along with [Erik] Alonso – are credible,” said Percy. “One of them was described as ‘a dream come true’ if it was to happen. Now, I’ll be honest with you, I’ve got no idea who that is at this moment, I’m obviously working on it.”

“I do believe it’s someone connected to a leading football agent; I’m obviously none the wiser at the moment, but it was told to me that, if they can get this one over the line – which, from my information, isn’t as advanced as the other ones – this would be a very, very good one, so watch this space,” he added.

These fresh links come after it was confirmed last week that a deal had not been reached with the Bin Zayed Group.

Spaniard Alonso has also been linked with purchasing the club in recent weeks, but there are doubts amongst the Derby supporters as to whether or not that would be a smart move for the club given his failed attempt of taking over Sheffield Wednesday not too long ago.

It is heavily reported that there are a number of potential suitors to complete the takeover, however, we are no closer to singling out a favourite.

Mel Morris took over the club in 2015, but may finally be able to cash in on his assets with plenty of possible buyers waiting in the wings.

The mention of a leading football agent may leave some thinking of Wolverhampton Wanderers and their partnership with Jorge Mendes.

Mendes helped bring a host of players to Molineux as they won promotion to the Championship, and Derby fans have to be excited about a similar possibility.
