Derby County are interested in signing Accrington Stanley striker Dion Charles, according to The Sun.

The 25-year-old has been in terrific form for Stanley in League One this season, having netted on 17 occasions and counting as John Coleman’s side go in search of that elusive final play-off spot.

Charles’ impressive form in the third tier saw him rewarded with his first international call up. He made his debut for Northern Ireland in a 2-1 defeat against the USA late last month.

Having started his career with Blackpool, he parted for AFC Fylde in search of more first team opportunities before moving to Fleetwood Town and then Southport in 2018. Accy came calling in 2020 and he’s been with the Lancashire-based outfit ever since.

Derby are not the only club said to be interested, however, with Cardiff City and Huddersfield Town also said to be keeping an eye on the lower league hotshot.

Charles is rated at around £1.5m, a deal that may be more likely for the Rams now that it appears a takeover of the club is nearing conclusion.

With Lee Gregory set to return to Stoke City and Martyn Waghorn’s contract set to expire, this rumour is certainly one to keep an eye on; Derby will surely sign a striker or two this summer.
