Derby County were believed to be in the race for Joey Dawson, but look to have missed out on the Scunthorpe United talent.

Iron Bru reported in April that Derby were keen to sign Dawson this summer, but faced major competition from Celtic.

The same website now claims that Celtic have won the race, and Dawson has already completed a medical with the Bhoys.

Dawson rejected a professional deal with Scunthorpe, and the League Two side will now receive a compensation fee from Celtic.

The 17-year-old striker hit 16 goals in the Youth Alliance league this season, attracting interest off the back of his exploits.

The nephew of Nottingham Forest hero Michael Dawson, Joey could have really annoyed some in his family by joining the Rams.

Instead, the striker is heading off to Scotland, where he will hope to become a first-team player over the coming years.

For Derby, the move means going back to the drawing board in search of a young striker to sign this summer.
