The attacker, however, is already training with the Rams and will be on the bench as part of Phillip Cocu’s coaching staff for the visit of Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
Rooney took to Instagram to share his delight at getting started at Derby. And former United teammate Evra left him a confidence-boosting response for all to see.

Rooney is said to be in good condition ahead of his arranged January signing.
The former England international took a short break after finishing his MLS spell with DC United. In America, he scored 25 goals in 52 games for the Washington club.
It remains to be seen where Rooney will play at Derby. The 34-year-old has no doubt lost his previous speed and stamina, but his quality on the ball should still be intact.
Rooney scored over 300 goals for United and England. He is widely regarded as England’s most talented player of his generation, ahead of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard.
Derby will perhaps play him in a number 10 role behind Chris Martin, Jack Marriott or Martyn Waghorn. However, much will depend on how he copes with Championship football.

Many supporters will be hoping he can provide the spark to prompt a playoff charge. Currently, the Rams are six points adrift of the top six after 18 games.
