Derby County’s trophy history cements them as one of the best sides in England throughout their years of existence. From top division honours to the oldest competition in world football, the Rams have seen the heights.

Trophies have been relatively hard to come by in more recent years. But Derby will be hoping to add more to their trophy cabinet in the future.

Derby found most of their league success in the 1970s, with the reign of Brian Clough and Peter Taylor marking an influential time for the club. The pair guided the Rams towards promotion into the top flight, before winning the First division in 1972.

While the management duo would depart in 1973, their successor Dave Mackay would ensure another title in 1975. It was a period that would go down as one of the most successful in the club’s entire history to date.

Derby have also won the oldest competition in world football, the FA Cup. The Rams won the trophy in the first final following World War Two, where they took on Charlton at Wembley Stadium.

Derby entered in the third round proper, where they beat Luton Town 9-0 over two legs to book their place into the next phase. A dismantling of West Bromwich Albion and Brighton followed in the rounds after.

Wins over Aston Villa and then Birmingham City in the quarters and semi-finals meant that the East Midlands outfit booked themselves in their fourth FA Cup final – where they had lost the previous three. A tie with Charlton saw late drama as two goals in one minute took the game to extra-time at 1-1.

Goals from Peter Doherty and Jackie Stamps in extra-time swung the game in the Rams’ favour, which cemented them a first, and so far only, FA Cup triumph.
