Paul Warne is looking to sign a striker for Derby before the end of the transfer window, Cauley Woodrow is one name that has been linked with a move.
The Rams have already signed two new goalscorers Kayden Jackson and Jerry Yates, however, the big concern for Warne still lies in attack.
In their opening Championship game, Derby lost 4-2 against Blackburn Rovers who were able to outscore Paul Warne’s side confirming the manager’s fears over attacking threat.
Luton Town striker Cauley Woodrow is linked with Derby County, but is he a worthy enough target for Paul Warne, or should the Derby boss target a more prolific striker?

Cauley Woodrow’s poor goalscoring record
With Warne keen on adding another striker, Rams fans have had mixed reactions to the club’s reported interest in Woodrow.
The 29-year-old plays for Luton Town and spent much of last season as a backup for the Hatters as they failed to survive in their first Premier League appearance since 1992.
Woodrow scored one goal in 24 games and his record doesn’t improve much if you look over the past three seasons.
He has made 79 appearances, scoring just seven goals, a rate of 0.09 goals per game. Compared to Derby County’s strikers, Woodrow has the worst goal-per-game ratio over the past three seasons.
| Name | Games played | Goals scored | Goals per game |
| Cauley Woodrow | 79 | 7 | 0.09 |
| James Collins | 106 | 28 | 0.3 |
| Kayden Jackson | 79 | 9 | 0.1 |
| Jerry Yates | 123 | 30 | 0.2 |
| Conor Washington | 89 | 19 | 0.2 |
How would Cauley Woodrow fit into Derby County’s team?
It’s clear that Woodrow is not an out-and-out goalscorer as he has only scored over 15 goals once in his career.
However, he could still be useful for the Rams as they lack depth up front, especially considering that James Collins and Conor Washington are well over 30.
In his most successful spell at Barnsley in 2019, Woodrow played the target man role, with a second striker just behind him.
The 29-year-old liked to hold the ball up for his strike partner to run onto. This would make him a fantastic partner to Nathaniel Mendez-Laing who spent much of last season playing up front.
Mendez-Laing likes to run in behind, and so if Woodrow was to hold the ball up for the Guatemalan to run onto, the Rams could have an efficient attack.
