Bristol City winger Jamie Paterson has taken to Instagram to post a message sharing his delight at being back at Ashton Gate following his loan spell at Derby County.

Paterson certainly wasn’t the club’s first choice. And his arrival was met with split opinion from some supporters who were hopeful of a bigger name joining the club.

He went on to make just five Championship starts for the Rams.

Paterson’s season-long loan deal was cut short by Derby. Now, back at Bristol City, he has made a winning return and he took to Instagram to share his delight.

Paterson was unlucky not to feature more often for Derby.

The 28-year-old looked a capable player in a Rams shirt. He provided an assist in the 1-1 draw at Leeds United, and scored the winner in the 3-2 win over Birmingham City.

But it seemed the emergence of Jason Knight pushed Paterson out of the first team picture. Manager Phillip Cocu is keen to bring through Derby’s younger players.

Paterson has marked his return to Bristol City in some style. He scored in the 2-0 win at Wigan Athletic, and City followed that up with a 1-0 home win over Barnsley.
