Derby County manager has taken to Instagram to share a message with the fans.

The Rams earned their first home win of the season, beating Birmingham City 3-2 in what was a topsy-turvy game which saw the Blues miss a penalty at 2-2.

It has been a difficult week for Derby. The club have dominated the headlines following an off-field incident leaving Richard Keogh ruled out for the season with injury.

But Cocu has remained professional throughout, and the Dutchman shared a message with the Derby fans on Instagram praising the great effort and support for the team.

Derby raced into a two-goal lead against Birmingham thanks to Chris Martin and Martyn Waghorn. The Blues, however, hit back in a mad six-minute spell after the break.

It felt like being another one of those days when Krystian Bielik’s poor challenge resulted in a penalty at 2-2. Kelle Roos, however, saved Lukas Jutkiewicz’s spot-kick,

The Rams galvanized themselves, and Jamie Paterson scored the winner.

Derby supporters will be hoping Cocu’s first home win acts as a springboard to kick on. It had been a long time coming, and the anxiousness around Pride Park was growing.

There is no doubt that Cocu has been dealt a difficult hand. Poor recruitment, a short pre-season, unlucky results and last week’s incident had a recipe for disaster.

But the former Barcelona midfielder has refused to complain. Cocu deserves respect for navigating Derby through a tricky spell, and he now must be allowed to push on.
