Rangers defender George Edmundson has taken to social media to call his time at Derby County a pleasure after helping the club retain their Championship status.

Edmundson joined the Rams from Rangers on loan in the January transfer window.

The former Oldham Athletic central defender has become a key component at Pride Park and featured in the relegation showdown with Andre Wisdom out injured.

On a chaotic day with Rotherham United, Sheffield Wednesday and Derby all vying for survival, it was the Rams who prevailed after a remarkable 3-3 draw with the Owls.

Taking to social media after the game, Edmundson praised the east Midlands club and reserved a special note to his teammates who he called a great bunch of lads.

Edmundson will now return to Rangers and in good timing too.

The Ibrox club have won the Scottish Premiership title, and the trophy ceremony will take place next Saturday as the Gers host Aberdeen on the final day of the season.

Rangers can still finish the league season unbeaten as they face Livingston and Aberdeen, while four points from their remaining two games will see them reach 100 points.

Edmundson’s future at Ibrox, however, is unclear. Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has plenty of defenders at his disposal, while he will want to build on this season’s success.

Derby, meanwhile, must make their defence a top priority this summer. Edmundson and Matt Clarke were on loan, while Wisdom and Curtis Davies are out of contract.
