Reported Derby County and Barnsley transfer target Kasper Junker currently ranks third in the Golden Boot 2020-21 race ahead of the likes of Kylian Mbappe.

The Denmark international has exploded into life this past calendar year.

Junker struggled to make a name for himself in his native Denmark. He had spells at Randers, AGF and Horsens, failing to hit double figures in a single campaign.

But since moving to Norway with Bodo / Glimt, the 26-year-old has been sensational.

Junker has netted 25 goals in 24 games since mid-June, including a strike against current Serie A leaders AC Milan in the Europa League in September at the San Siro.

According to VG, Derby County and Barnsley are keen on him.

The Norwegian league will finish this weekend. Bodo / Glimt are champions elect with a 19-point cushion over second place while scoring 100 goals in 29 games.

Junker currently leads Norway’s Golden Boot award with 25 goals, while on a wider scale he currently ranks third in the European 2020-21 race with Robert Lewandowski topping the list.

Junker has scored more than Lewandowski’s current tally of 15. However, the Poland international’s tally is multiplied by two due to the Bundesliga coefficient rankings.

Either way, Junker has made a big impression and a January move is likely.

Barnsley have made a mockery of their predicted struggles this season. The Tykes have won their last three Championship games and sit 12th in the table.

Derby, meanwhile, are in the bottom three despite a six-game unbeaten run.

The Rams have desperately lacked goals this season. The summer departure of Chris Martin left a huge void while the injured Jack Marriott joined Sheffield Wednesday on loan.

Derby will target a new striker in January. Junker could be an excellent option, with the 6ft 1inch attacker an ideal alternative to current first-team striker Colin Kazim-Richards.
