Derby County right back Kane Wilson has said it ‘would be nice’ to be like Craig Forsyth and stay at Derby for ten years, saying that he would be ‘happy’ with a career like his.

The 23-year-old made the move to Pride Park in the summer from Bristol City for an undisclosed fee.

Despite not getting as many starts as he would like under Paul Warne so far, Wilson has become a fans favourite for being exciting to watch with his ball carrying and dribbling ability.

Speaking to the Derby Telegraph, Wilson spoke of his admiration of Forysth’s career at Derby, along with how happy he is at Derby, calling it ‘home’.

“I never want to sit around and not play so I really tried to push for Derby where they can hopefully be the beneficiaries.

“For me it’s beautiful. I am back at home and the goal is to be with Derby in the Championship and then the Premier League. I know we are a long way off from that at the moment, but everything for me here is perfect.

Wilson continued: “There is competition. It’s a big club, it’s a big squad and I really believe we can go up and the idea of being with Derby in the Championship was something I couldn’t turn down. When I look around, it would be nice to be a Craig Forsyth kind of thing.

“He’s had an unbelievable career. For me, he is the epitome. He’s been here at Derby, a massive club, for ten years. He’s had his testimonial and everything. That’s beautiful. He’s seen the good times, the bad times. It’s been a real journey. But come on, I am miles away from being the new Craig Forsyth but you have to aim for something. If I could have a career like him I would be happy.”

Good to hear from Wilson

With Wilson making a decent start to his career at Derby, it is good to see him have such high aspirations for his time at the club.

It is also good to see that he looks up to the more senior players at Derby, like Forsyth, and has aims to be like them in becoming an icon at the club in the years to come.

Hopefully Wilson can continue his run to being a Derby icon after the international break when the Rams host Bristol Rovers on Saturday afternoon.
