One of three Derby County departures on deadline day, Morgan Whittaker has wasted no time settling into his new surroundings at Swansea City.

The 20-year-old signed permanently with the Swans little over a week ago, putting pen to paper on a four-and-a-half year contract with the Welsh side.

Swansea played host to Manchester City in the fifth round of the FA Cup on Wednesday evening and despite being on the end of a 3-1 defeat, it was a promising performance from the youngster who managed to open his goalscoring account for Steve Cooper’s side, coming on as a second half substitute.

Playing centrally, a privilege he was rarely trusted with at Derby, Whittaker burst into away side’s penalty area, meeting the inviting pass of teammate Ryan Manning before taking a touch which flicked up onto his chest. On the turn, the former Ram then wrapped his left foot around the ball, sending his effort into the bottom right-hand corner and past the outstretched arm of Zack Steffen in the City net.

Derby fans took to Twitter to have their say on the matter.

With only half an hour played in Swansea colours, Whittaker has already equalled his Derby goal tally and if his debut was anything to go by, then the forward could be well set for a successful spell across the border.
