Derby County secured a massive 1-0 victory over play-off chasers Blackpool this afternoon and one player deserved all the plaudits.
Derby County strengthened their grip on second position in League One as Bolton Wanderers dropped points away at Stevenage to move six clear of the Trotters.
Bolton weren’t the only side in the promotion picture to let the nerves get the better of them as Peterborough United lost at home to Carlisle and Barnsley were beaten by Cambridge United at Oakwell.
Paul Warne said before the match that the result is the only thing that matters at this stage of the season, and Derby delivered on that front thanks to a thunderbolt from Ebou Adams.
The 28-year-old latched onto a bouncing ball just inside the 18-yard box and smashed it past Daniel Grimshaw with power to give his side the lead just before half-time.
It led to an outpour of praise from fans and pundits alike on social media, including from Derby Telegraph journalist Leigh Curtis, who described that moment as “brilliant” and his performance as “magnificent”.

Adams looked fatigued in last weekend’s loss against Northampton, but a switch to a 4-4-2 system and moving Korey Smith alongside him saw the Cardiff City loanee get back to his best.
The 28-year-old ran the show in midfield by covering every blade of grass to win possession back for his team and dominate his opponents physically in the engine room.
It was the level of performance that Derby supporters have grown used to seeing as Adams made five tackles, four clearances and won a whopping eight ground duels.
A nuisance to play against as he never gives his opponents a moment of peace, the midfield destroyer turned up for the big occasion to help his side to a mammoth three points.
Derby have to sign Ebou Adams permanently
Consistently bullish and energetic displays have seen the Gambian international become a firm fan favourite at Pride Park, and with Derby closing in promotion to the Championship, they have to start thinking about signing Adams permanently.
Although promotion is far from sealed given Bolton can move three points behind by winning their game in hand, opening negotiations with Cardiff for Adams – regardless of what division they are playing in next season – is a must.
Of course, several clubs in the Championship will probably be taking a look at the midfielder after watching his performances for Derby.
However, the Rams should hold the upper hand in negotiations and performances – like the one he put in today – prove why.
