Derby County managed to bounce back from the humiliating 1-0 defeat to Shrewsbury Town on Saturday afternoon, winning comfortably on Tuesday night with a 2-0 victory over Exeter City, with Ryan Nyambe one of the players starting for the Rams.
Nathaniel Mendez-Laing scored the first, poking in from close range after some nice play from Max Bird and Craig Forsyth down the left hand side.
Conor Washington then got the second, cutting in from the left hand side and finishing with a low driven shot at the near post to secure the three points.
Derby star shines in victory
Whilst the goal scorers will take all the plaudits, the defence managed to keep another clean sheet, with Nyambe receiving some praise from the local press.
Journalist for the Derby Telegraph, Leigh Curtis, praised Nyambe’s performance in his player ratings, giving him a 7.5/10.
He said: “The defender has been a brilliant signing and looked very solid down his side of the pitch. One moment when he used his body to stop Exeter from chasing into the corner summed up his defensive awareness.”
Nyambe has been brilliant
Curtis is right in saying that Nyambe has been a brilliant signing.
The 25-year-old joined Derby last month after being without a club since his contract expired at Wigan Athletic.
He was brought in as defensive cover at right back after the injuries to Kane Wilson and Joe Ward, but has starred since his arrival.
Due to Nyambe’s form, Wilson has now been playing further up the pitch, starting at right wing against Exeter. Ward is yet to make an appearance since his recovery but is still in training.
