Derby County were on the wrong end of a battering on Tuesday evening, losing 4-0 to a well-drilled Cardiff City side.

The Rams dominated the ball, boasting 73% of the possession, but were ultimately unable to trouble Mick McCarthy’s side who now look destined for a top six finish.

Wayne Rooney opted to rest a number of key players against the Bluebirds, a decision which provided Everton loanee Beni Baningime with his first start for the club.

The 22-year-old featured for the entirety of the clash in South Wales, playing alongside the ever-present Graeme Shinnie in the centre of midfield.

Supporters were understandably unhappy with the team’s performance as a whole, but Baningime’s individual showing happened to split opinion online with some spectators clearly more pleased than others.

So, the jury is still out on Baningime, but it’s a quick turnaround for him and the rest of the squad as Rooney’s side travel to St. Andrews on Saturday to take on Coventry City.

Let’s hope that we won’t see a repeat of Tuesday’s performance at the weekend.
