Former Derby County target Kasper Junker sealed a peculiar switch on Thursday morning, trading the Eliteserien for the J1 League after FK Bodo/Glimt and Urawa Red Diamonds agreed an undisclosed fee for the forward.

Junker, 27, was a target for both the Rams and Celtic in January, but couldn’t force a move away from the Norwegian side before the transfer window drew to a close in Europe.

The striker netted a ridiculous 27 goals in 28 games for the Norwegian outfit during the 2019/20 campaign, not to mention a further 11 assists; a totally remarkable return.

After making just one appearance this season, the move makes sense for all parties. Signing for the Reds provides Junker with an opportunity to get his name in the headlines once more as he tries to bounce back to the incredible form he was showing just two seasons ago.

Junker joins Urawa with the club sat 13th in the Japanese top flight, two points above the relegation zone. Their season has just begun, having played just six games to date, winning once.
