Eiran Cashin shares one ‘massive’ reason why he signed new Derby County contract

Eiran Cashin has now revealed why he signed a new contract at Derby County despite interest from Premier League club Brighton.

Eiran Cashin is a prime example of the talent Derby County can produce from their academy and the defender has been exceptional once more this season.

Cashin has played in 33 of their 34 matches and formed an impressive partnership with Curtis Nelson.

That defensive duo have created the bedrock of their promotion charge having kept an impressive 13 clean sheets while no one else in Paul Warne’s squad has averaged more interceptions per game (1.7), clearances (5.2) and accurate long balls (5.2) than the Republic of Ireland defender.

The 22-year-old has displayed relentless consistency with his performances, an ability to look so assured in possession and read the game wonderfully.

As a result, it was no surprise that Premier League side Brighton came close to signing him in the summer transfer window, but they ran out of time to finalise a deal before the window shut.

Despite this setback, the academy graduate quickly came to terms with what happened last September, proven by how pivotal he’s been in Derby’s attempts to escape League One at the second time of asking.

Cashin committed his future to the club by signing a three-year contract in February and while that’s unlikely to deter clubs from trying to prise him away from Pride Park, he’s now revealed the main reason behind him signing a new deal.

Eiran Cashin shares ‘massive’ reason why he signed new Derby County contract

Speaking in an interview with the Derby Telegraph, Cashin said: “There was a lot of a lot of work into getting it done, but now I can concentrate on the football and promotion. The reception from the fans at Charlton after it was announced just reinforced that they are a massive reason why I signed.

“The club and the supporters have been great with me, they’ve always backed me so it made my decision a lot easier. There were obviously a few things that we had to nail down in the contract, but the club was really good and it was done pretty sharply to be fair. It helps that I enjoy and love being here.”

Cashin credits the loyal supporters for being the key factor behind why he signed a new deal while the fact he loves being at Pride Park was a huge bonus.

The loyalty and commitment he’s shown to the club has been second to none, but regardless of what division Derby are playing in next season, more teams will be interested in signing him.

He’s been truly magnificent at the heart of defence and looks tailormade to play Premier League football in the not-so-distant future.

Of course, Rams supporters would love him to stay at the club long-term, but can’t begrudge him for moving on if the opportunity arises.
