A former Derby County manager could be in line to undertake a shock new role in the coming weeks.
Derby County fans are fully focused on the 2024/25 Championship season, for which they might be quietly optimistic.
Paul Warne’s side have enjoyed a steady start to the summer transfer window having made some impressive captures so far.
But Warne will know that his side still need plenty of bolstering in the transfer window if they’re to stand a chance of Championship survival next time round.
And now with Euro 2024 finished, it may give Derby and many others in the Championship a bit more openness in the transfer market.

Former Derby County boss Frank Lampard tipped for England manager job after Gareth Souhtgate resigns
Frank Lampard, 46, is among the early contenders to replace Southgate as England manager, according to The Guardian.
Lampard scored 29 goals for England in 109 games and was last in management permanently (with a spell as Chelsea caretaker boss in mid-2023) with Everton in January 2023.
With the Toffees, Lampard boasted 27.3% win rate. Before that with Chelsea, Lampard won 52.4% of games, and with Derby County between 2018 and 2019, Lampard won 42.1% of games, reaching the 2019 Championship play-off final but losing to Aston Villa.
Why Frank Lampard could be a good fit for England
There’s a lot of mixed opinions about Lampard in management. But there’s still reason to believe that he could be a good fit for another club, or even for England.
Each of his jobs have had different difficulties and after seeing how poorly Chelsea have done recently, it makes his 4th place finish in 2019/20 seem all the more impressive.
With Derby, Lampard urged more attacking and exciting football which is what England desperately need right now, and given his vast international and Premier League experience, Lampard’s knowledge could be vital for these younger England players breaking through.
It’s obviously a huge job for whoever lands it. Should Lampard land the job then he’ll look to call upon his successes at Pride Park, albeit ultimately losing a play-off final, to hold him in good stead on the international stage.
