A former Derby County player has, this week, become a free agent after being released by his last side.
Derby County saw their fair share of players leave Pride Park on free transfers earlier in the summer – some of which caused Paul Warne a major headache.
Joe Wildmish was a shock free-agent exit during the 2024 summer transfer window, being released at the end of his contract despite winning the Golden Glove award in League One last season to help the Rams win promotion.
Long-time servant Louie Sibley’s departure was also somewhat surprising, with the player having proved a very useful squad rotation option the campaign prior due to his ability to start in multiple positions.
And though he was only at the club for just under six months, Derby let Dwight Gayle depart, with the ageing striker having since made the move to Scotland to link up with Hibernian.

Former Derby County gem Kieron Freeman released by Hartlepool United
Now, nine years on from his Derby exit, Kieron Freeman has this week been released as a free agent.
Freeman was plying his trade in the National League with North East outfit Hartlepool United, whom he played just seven times for and scored one goal.
Hartlepool confirmed the release in an official statement on their club website.
They wrote: “Hartlepool United can confirm the departure of Kieron Freeman upon the expiration of his short-term contract.
“The right-back made seven appearances during his time at the Prestige Group Stadium.
“Having now recovered from an injury sustained against Ebbsfleet United in the middle of September, the Club have opted against extending Freeman’s contact.
“We thank Kieron for his efforts and wish him the best of luck in his future.”

Kieron Freeman at Derby County
Freeman joined Derby on August 22nd, 2012, from Nottingham Forest for an undisclosed fee.
Nigel Clough was manager of the Derbyshire outfit at the time but did not offer the then youngster too many chances.
Freeman, now 32, made 27 appearances for the Rams and provided two assists in all competitions.
The right-back had several loan spells during his time with Derby, including one with Sheffield United, whom he eventually joined on a permanent basis in 2015.
Freeman went on the play over 100 games for the Blades but after being released by them in 2020, the defender’s career has stagnated somewhat.
At 32 he may still have a couple of playing years left in him and hopefully, he finds a new club in the near future.
