Fresh from his £750,000 Derby departure, George Evans has wasted no time in settling down at his new club.

The ex-Ram starred for Millwall in their clash with Reading at the Madejski Stadium on Saturday, a fixture which Gary Rowett’s side won 2-1.

The Lions came from behind to secure all three points on the day thanks to a late strike from the infamous Mason Bennett, another player with strong ties to Derby.

It was Evans who impressed the most, however, as he was named in the Sky Bet Championship Team of the Week, powered by WhoScored ratings.

Playing against another of his former sides, the versatile defender scored a rating of 7.93 – his highest rating this season.

Prior to that, his highest rating of the campaign was performed in Derby colours. He scored 6.88, featuring for the entirety of the match as the Rams beat AFC Bournemouth 1-0 at Pride Park Stadium last month.

Evans has played on the right of a back three for Millwall so far and looks a perfect fit for Rowett’s side, who actually happen to have a large contingent of former Derby players within their ranks.

Rowett has of course both played for and managed the Rams in his time. Scott Malone is currently on loan from Derby. The afore mentioned Bennett is now permanently with the Lions following his short-term loan spell. Frank Fielding and Alex Pearce are also regulars within the Millwall matchday squad.

The 26-year-old will have also known forward Jón Daði Böðvarsson from their time together at Reading, making it no real surprise that Evans has slotted into the team as quickly and easily as he has.

Derby host Millwall next month on March 13th, providing Evans with a great opportunity to show off against his former colleagues – might Wayne Rooney be slightly regretting his decision to let the player leave?
