Derby County right back Andre Wisdom told RamsTV how Wayne Rooney has been displaying plenty of quality in training as he builds towards his official move in January.

Rooney agreed an 18-month deal with Derby in the summer. However, he isn’t available for selection until January as he finished the MLS season with DC United in October.

The former England international took a short break before joining the Rams early. He began training this past week and was introduced at Pride Park on Saturday.

Wisdom, making his first start of the campaign against Queens Park Rangers, gave a positive account of Rooney’s presence in his post-match interview with RamsTV.

You know what he is about. He’s been training with us for a couple of weeks now and he’s still got it, not that it ever went. He’s a class player, an even better guy who chips in on the banter. It’s good and hopefully when he’s available for selection he will add to our squad even more.

What Wayne Rooney will offer Derby County:

Derby laboured to a 1-1 draw at home to QPR. Martyn Waghorn gave the Rams the lead, before Eberechi Eze equalized for the Hoops in first half stoppage time.

The Rams pushed for a winner in the second half but ultimately came up short.

While injuries certainly haven’t helped, Derby have struggled for creativity this season. Phillip Cocu’s side have scored just 19 Championship goals in 18 games.

Strikers Chris Martin, Martyn Waghorn and Jack Marriott are all capable of finding the net. However, the trio have either been forced out of position or lack quality service.

Rooney’s inclusion should have a big impact. The former Manchester United man will likely feature in a deeper, more creative role which will help Derby going forward.
