The League One playoffs for the 2023/24 season are fast approaching, with teams looking to book their place in the Championship.
As the end of the season approaches, teams are putting everything on the line to try and earn promotion to the Championship.
For those at the very top, a finish in the top two will earn automatic promotion for the campaign.
Teams between third and sixth will have to traverse through the drama of the playoffs, something Derby County have managed to avoid this season.
Four teams enter, but only one will be able to book their place in the Championship for next season.
So with that said, here’s a look at everything you need to know about the 2024 League One playoffs.

How do League One playoffs work?
The playoffs are setup with four teams, ranking from third to sixth in the division, taking part.
There are two semi-finals, played over two legs at each teams’ respective stadium, before the final is played at Wembley Stadium.
Matches are based on the final positions in League One, with third place taking on sixth, with fourth and fifth facing off.
When are the League One playoffs?
The EFL have confirmed the dates for the League One playoffs, including the semi-finals and final times. They are as follows:
- League One playoff semi-final A first leg (sixth vs third) – Friday, 3 May, 20:00.
- League One playoff semi-final A second leg (third vs sixth) – Tuesday, 7 May, 20:00.
- League One playoff semi-final B first leg (fifth vs fourth) – Saturday, 4 May, 19:45.
- League One playoff semi-final B second leg (fourth vs fifth) – Wednesday, 8 May, 20:00.
- League One playoff final – Saturday, 18 May, kick-off time TBC.

The playoffs are set to be shown by Sky Sports, as current TV rights holders of the EFL competitions, which includes League One.
League One playoff fixtures
The fixtures are finally set, as Barnsley face off with Bolton Wanderers in a repeat of last season’s play-off semi-final that saw the Tykes walk out victorious.
A clash between Oxford United and Peterborough United will decide the other half of the bracket, with a place in the final at Wembley Stadium up for grabs.
