Livingston manager Gary Holt has told Deadline News how his side are interesting in signing former Derby County defender Efe Ambrose this month.

The Nigeria international defender has been without a club since leaving Derby.

He joined the Rams from Hibernian on a free transfer in January 2019, signing a short-term deal. He arrived following long-term injuries to Curtis Davies and Craig Forsyth.

But Ambrose failed to make a single appearance for Derby. Richard Keogh and Fikayo Tomori, who joined on loan from Chelsea, formed an excellent partnership at Pride Park.

Speaking to Deadline News, Livingston boss Gary Holt has admitted his interest.

Regarding that, is it someone I would be interested in? Yeah, probably. But there is a long way from being interested in someone to something then happening.

Ambrose’s six-month deal at Derby expired last summer, and the club opted against extending his deal. Davies and Forsyth, meanwhile, have recovered from their long-term injuries.

A potential move back to Scotland has been on the cards for Ambrose.

The Scottish Mail print edition (November 17) cited both Hibernian and St Johnstone as taking an interest. However, a deal with either has since failed to materialise.

Livingston will hope to strengthen this month as they seek to finish in the top six. Gary Holt’s men are currently fifth in the table, two points ahead of Kilmarnock.

While relegation shouldn’t be a worry for The Lions, the bottom half of the table is congested and only seven points separates them from Hamilton Academical down in 11th.
