Derby County have been criticised for their ‘unforgivable’ display against Burton Albion yesterday.
Derby County had the opportunity to move into the League One automatic promotion spots as they hosted Burton Albion.
The Rams has lost only one of their last 12 league matches, while Burton sat only five points above the relegation zone. The Brewers had only claimed a single point on the road since October.
Paul Warne‘s side initially took a comfortable 2-0 lead, but it wasn’t long before Burton clawed their way back.
A defensive error from Callum Elder left Joe Hugill one-on-one with the keeper to equalise, shortly after Steve Seddon had pegged one back.
Thankfully, Conor Hourihane managed to tuck away an added-time winner to claim all three points, but it was almost a very dismal evening at Pride Park.
Paul Warne has let out his frustrations at the result and has said he was left ‘disappointed’ by the performance.
Speaking to Derbyshire Live, Warne said: “I thought we were good for 50 minutes. We then had a wobble and lost the ball on the halfway line which was disappointing.
“The lad then travelled and hit the perfect spot so massive respect to Seddon’s finish. The second goal is unforgivable really. It’s not like us to concede a goal like that.
“I then thought we were on the rollercoaster a bit. That’s what disappointed me. I just thought we lost a bit of our character and we’d gone from complete control really. Fair play to Burton, they made it difficult for us. We found it difficult to break them down.”
Are Derby County due a nervy period?
It is a relieving victory for Derby County, but one that they shouldn’t have found themselves so close to losing in the first place.
It is the third 3-2 scoreline The Rams have had since the turn of the year, losing one of those to Peterborough United.
Despite having the fourth-best defence in League One, Derby have come very close to letting their backline cost them some important points.
The Midlands outfit need to stop putting themselves in dangerous positions and put these games to bed, because they shouldn’t almost be slipping up on homes soil against a team battling relegation.
Derby had picked up six clean sheets in ten league games earlier this season, but have now conceded eight goals in their last four.
Fans will be all too familiar with a turnaround in form in the latter stages of the campaign, but Paul Warne simply can’t allow that to happen again.
