Former Manchester United player Demetri Mitchell has named two Derby County players as two of the top wingers in League One.

Derby County are fighting to win promotion back to the Championship.

The Rams were in blistering form but Paul Warne’s side have shown signs of fatigue in their last two matches.

Derby drew 0-0 away at Lincoln City and only registered three shots on target while their disappointing 1-0 defeat against Reading last night saw them miss the chance to go top of the table.

Despite being blunted in front of goal in their last two matches, Nathaniel Mendez-Laing is one player who continues to carry the most threat for the Rams.

The former Cardiff City whiz has contributed to 30% of their goals scored in the league with an impressive six goals and nine assists in 28 appearances.

Mendez-Laing has been in unbelievable form and deserves all the plaudits he’s received, as does new signing Corey Blackett-Taylor.

Derby captured one of the most exciting wingers in the division from league rivals Charlton Athletic and the 26-year-old will hope to continue his stunning form at Pride Park.

Much like Mendez-Laing, Blackett-Taylor has weighed in with 15 goal contributions comprising eight goals and seven assists.

On paper, the Rams have two of the top wingers in League One and that is a sentiment echoed by former Manchester United academy graduate Demetri Mitchell.

Demetri Mitchell names his top three wingers in League One

Mitchell spent 13 years at Man United between 2007 and 2020, making his Premier League debut for the club against Crystal Palace in May 2017.

Although that turned out to be his only appearance for the Red Devils, the winger – who can also play left-back – has since spent time in Scotland and at clubs across the EFL.

Two loan spells at Hearts were followed by permanent transfers to Blackpool and Hibernian before joining Exeter City on a free transfer in January 2023.

Mitchell showed promise at the start of this season for Exeter, registering two goals and three assists in 14 appearances before being ruled out for the rest of the campaign with a crucial ligament injury picked up in November.

Now, he’s taken to X (formerly Twitter) to give his verdict on who he believes are the top three best wingers in League One.

As a winger himself, it’s pleasing to see two Derby players, Mendez-Laing and Blackett-Taylor both make the list.

The pair have been two of the most destructive players in the division alongside Peterborough United’s Kwame Poku, so it is hard to argue against their inclusion.

Warne will now be hoping the introduction of Blackett-Taylor can help fire the Rams to promotion.
