Derby County manager Paul Warne has spoken of his ‘frustration’ with his side not being able to put away their chances.
Crewe looked to be heading to the second round of the FA Cup, leading 2-0 courtesy of goals from Courtney Baker-Richardson and Elliott Nevitt.
But the Rams managed to come from behind to secure a replay at Pride Park, with Nathaniel Mendez-Laing scoring in the 89th minute, before Conor Hourihane got the equaliser in the third minute of injury time.
Paul Warne said after the game that he was proud of his team’s performance.
If Derby win the replay, they will host fellow League One side Bristol Rovers.
Warne opens up on failure to take chances
Speaking to the club website, Warne shared his ‘frustration’ about the amount of chances Derby create, but do not put away.
“We’re a good team and that’s where the frustration is when we don’t win because everyone can see what a good team we are.
“They are a great group, they are trying to win games and again it was probably a bit of a microcosm of our season. We were really good in parts and let ourselves down in a couple of parts.
“We leave here relieved possibly, but mostly with pride. I’m really pleased with the dressing room because lesser people would have dropped.”
Derby need to improve in front of goal
Goals have been a source of problems for Derby in recent times.
They do show that they can score plenty of goals when they do take their chances, like when they thrashed Northampton Town 4-0 last week.
Warne needs to make sure his side does this on a more consistent basis if they are to push up the League One table.
