New signing George Edmundson, on loan from Rangers, bagged his first goal in Derby colours on Tuesday evening as the Rams recorded a convincing 2-0 victory over Huddersfield Town.

Assisted by Nathan Byrne, the centre-back opened the scoring in the 22nd minute as he thumped his header past the flailing Ryan Schofield in net for the Terriers.

Edmundson was then subbed off at half-time, prior to Derby doubling their advantage through Martyn Waghorn, but the loanee had done enough in the first half alone to earn praise from Rams fans online.

The defender has now made three appearances for Derby, two of which have lasted less than 50 minutes, since signing on deadline day.

With Andre Wisdom and Matt Clarke in great form, it appears as though Edmundson’s only real opportunity for first team action is when the 3-5-2 formation is rolled out.

He has impressed in his limited game time so far though, almost certainly handing a selection headache to Wayne Rooney when it comes to naming the back four.

Alongside Edmundson, Wisdom and Clarke, the Rams boss also has Teden Mengi at his disposal meaning competition for a place in the Derby defence is tougher than it has ever been before.

Depending on Rooney’s tactical decision, the loanee may be in line to make an appearance in the East Midlands Derby on Friday evening, but we shall have to wait and see.
