According to The Athletic, Derby County loanee George Edmundson put himself through the pain barrier to face Preston North End in midweek.

It’s claimed that Edmundson was in the treatment room alongside Kamil Jozwiak, but told Wayne Rooney that he was available for the bench against Preston.

Edmundson had picked up a hernia injury, but made it clear that he was ready to play if needed, showing the fight and determination Derby need right now.

It turned out that Derby needed Edmundson more than expected; he was brought on in the first half after Andre Wisdom picked up an injury.

Sadly, Edmundson’s didn’t count for all that much on the night as Preston romped to a comfortable 3-0 win over the hapless Rams.

Edmundson did though have one of Derby’s best chances to score, forcing Daniel Iversen into a superb save with the score at 1-0.

The Rangers loanee appears to have no future at Ibrox, and may now be playing for a long-term future at Derby with his loan expiring this summer.

These battling qualities will stand him in good stead with fans, but much will depend on whether Derby and Edmundson can fight to stay in the Championship.
