Derby County manager Wayne Rooney has told RamsTV how there are no new players returning from injury which suggests Andre Wisdom may have played his final game.

The defender joined Derby from Liverpool on a four-year deal in 2017.

Wisdom originally started out as a right-back, but he has since predominantly featured as a centre-back over the past 12 months and become a regular there at Pride Park.

The 27-year-old has made 36 Championship appearances this season.

But Wisdom picked up a groin injury in the 3-0 defeat at Preston last month, and Rooney has told reporters how no injured player has returned for the clash with Sheffield Wednesday.

Derby face Wednesday at Pride Park in what is now a relegation showdown.

The Rams are three points clear of Wednesday but with an inferior goal difference.

An Owls victory will relegate Derby, but anything other than a win for Darren Moore’s side will see the Yorkshire club drop into the third tier for the second time in the past decade.

Rotherham United, meanwhile, are two points behind Derby. The Millers would relegate both if they beat Cardiff City away and the Rams fail to pick up all three points.

Wisdom, meanwhile, is out of contract at Derby at the end of the season with the former Liverpool man arguably among the east Midland club’s highest earners.

The Rams must clear the decks this summer and rebuild. Wisdom has been a reliable figure, but with no new deal forthcoming, he may have already played his final Derby game.
