Derby County defender Ryan Nyambe feels that he will be ‘at his best’ after the international break.

The right back joined Derby last month in a deal until January, after a summer as a free agent following his release from Wigan Athletic.

The former Blackburn defender has been exceptional for the Rams so far, looking a cut above at League One level.

Nyambe now feels that after a month at Pride Park and an international break away with Namibia, he will be fully up to speed upon his return.

“I didn’t have a full pre-season so I’d probably say there’s a little bit more to come,” he told Rams TV. “Normally when I have a full pre-season is when I’m at my best so hopefully after this international break my body can regenerate a little bit, reset and go again. I believe there’s more to come.

“I’m enjoying it at the moment. It’s been a great start for me. I didn’t expect to start the first game against Carlisle United last month but the gaffer trusted me. I think I showed I was fit through that game and now I’m just happy to be playing. I’ve not been too bad fitness-wise, actually, and I got two games in during the last international break which set me up nicely. Body wise I’ve felt OK.”

Will Ryan Nyambe keep his place?

Nyambe’s performances have undoubtedly been brilliant, especially considering he did not have a full pre-season.

It will certainly be exciting to see him get better and better, although with Kane Wilson back from injury and Joe Ward still to return, it remains to be seen whether Nyambe can maintain his place in the side.
