Former Derby County defender Shaun Barker has hailed striker Conor Washington for his recent performances.

Derby got back to winning ways after defeat at the weekend to Stevenage, by thrashing Northampton Town 4-0.

Washington got on the scoresheet, with Max Bird getting a brace and Nathaniel Mendez-Laing with the other.

Speaking on The Derby Debrief on the club’s YouTube channel following the win over Northampton, Barker was full of praise for Washington.

“I thought too many of the the senior players at the start of the season didn’t hit the ground running, didn’t show their quality or experience or know how in the pitch in the first four or five games of the season.

“I always questioned right at the start, individual performance first and foremost, and there was six or seven across the board that weren’t performing.

“All of a sudden now we’re starting to see the likes of Wash, getting duly fit and showing his quality.”

Washington picking up form at right time for Warne

Washington now seems to be coming into his own at Pride Park.

The Northern Ireland international has scored two goals in his last three games, with a season total of three goals and two assists in 14 games in League One.

He made the move to Derby from former club Rotherham United in the summer, when he had previously worked with manager Paul Warne.

Warne will be hoping Washington keeps up his form for the Rams as they look to push themselves into the playoff places.
