A fresh update has emerged on the fitness of Derby County duo Craig Forsyth and Ryan Nyambe.

Derby County have endured their fair share of injury trouble this term and those have been heightened in the last month.

The biggest setback they faced was the knee injury to top scorer James Collins who looks set to return to action at the end of March.

Collins has been missing since the 3-0 win over Exeter City last month and his return to action will be a welcomed one, as will Craig Forsyth and Ryan Nyambe.

Forsyth suffered a calf injury in the win over Fleetwood Town in January while Nyambe had to come off the pitch in the defeat against Charlton Athletic last week.

During a period where the Rams enter the promotion run-in, Paul Warne needs his players fully fit for the action.

Luckily, a positive update has emerged, particularly on Forsyth, ahead of their trip to Bristol Rovers this weekend.

As reported by journalist Dominic Deitrich, Forsyth is back in training after nearly two months while the Nambian international Nyambe was due for a scan either today or tomorrow with a view to seeing a specialist this weekend.

Derby assistant Richie Barker has gone into detail about the players’ situation, claiming that he doesn’t want to rush Forsyth back.

“Forsyth is going to join in today, he’s done quite a bit of running on the grass with the physios over the last few days,” Barker told BBC Radio Derby.

“I think the plan is for him to join in today and maybe not tomorrow do his own sessions. But he won’t be available for the weekend he’s been out for a long time so and if we rush him back for one game then lose him for the next eight, that’s pointless.”

Forsyth’s return to training is a huge boost

In the absence of the 35-year-old, Warne has been presented with a real headache and in the victory over Port Vale, he resolved that by switching to a 3-4-3 system and using Louie Sibley as a left wing-back.

While Sibley did look fantastic against poorer opposition, the return of Forsyth allows the Derby boss to switch back to his usual 4-3-3 system and slot the Scotsman in at left-back.

This may be the preferred avenue to go down for their season-defining fixtures against Bolton Wanderers and Portsmouth as using the three-at-the-back system could see Derby get exposed defensively.

Of course, Barker has already said that Forsyth’s integration back into the action will be a slow one and that means Sibley can continue his wing-back role.

Though he hopes the veteran can play a vital role in some of Derby’s remaining matches this season and that is news everyone will have wanted to hear.
