What Tyreece John-Jules has done since Arsenal and Derby County exit as free agent

Derby County have had plenty of quality loans over the years, with last season landing them a move for Arsenal striker Tyreece John-Jules.

The 23-year-old joined the Rams after a season on loan at Ipswich Town, where he helped the Tractor Boys win promotion out of League One.

He aimed to do more of the same at Pride Park, though with more regular game time and fewer injury troubles.

John-Jules had been a promising youngster at the Arsenal academy, though several spells on the medical table led to some concerns.

The striker played the first two games of the League One campaign for Derby but picked up a thigh knock that saw him miss ten matches from the squad.

His return against Port Vale came with the quality expected of his signing, scoring against Port Vale in a narrow 1-0 win.

A run of 11 games in the squad showed signs of improvement, but a serious hamstring injury in January ended his season early.

Tyreece John-Jules since Arsenal exit

With the end of the season rolling around, Arsenal revealed that they wouldn’t be extending John-Jules’ contract.

The forward has shown clear signs of quality, with pace for runs in behind but mixed with a height and strengths that can see him link play.

However, it is clear that injury concerns have been a problem throughout his career so far, without a season topping 20 league appearances.

With the striker now a free agent, videos have been shared on John-Jules’ TikTok account (@TyreeceJJ9) showing his training drills over the summer as he looks to keep himself ready for a chance to move this summer.

Those videos have included finishing drills, where the forward receives the ball in different scenarios before scoring beyond a goalkeeper.

It’s currently unclear whether John-Jules is also training with the Professional Footballers’ Association camp for pre-season – with former Derby stars Joe Wildsmith and Dwight Gayle seen training with the group there over the past month.

What next for Tyreece John-Jules?

It remains to be seen what is next for John-Jules following his exit from Arsenal as a free agent, with a new team yet to be decided.

For Derby, a move may seem unlikely but with Paul Warne still searching for a new striker it can never be ruled out.

The main concern will always be his injury record, but John-Jules has shown that there is a quality player in there.

Whichever club can take the 23-year-old and keep him fit, they could have a promising talent far better than the free transfer fee they will pay.
