As reported by Diario AS, Wolverhampton Wanderers are keen on signing former Derby County midfielder Omar Mascarell.

On loan from Real Madrid, the Spaniard spent the 2014/15 campaign on loan with the Rams, working under Steve McClaren as he made 30 appearances in all competitions during his stay in the East Midlands.

The midfielder returned to Los Blancos having registered a solitary assist for Derby, and his career then began to take off.

A loan spell to Sporting Gijón in the following campaign saw Mascarell gain his first real taste of top-flight football. He had made just the one cameo appearance for his parent club beforehand, but he helped the Asturians retain their La Liga status.

In 2016, Germany called as he made the permanent switch to Eintracht Frankfurt. He made 45 appearances over the course of his two-year stay at the club before putting pen to paper with fellow Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04.

Now in his third season with Die Knappen, he has once again attracted interest from England with Wolves reportedly ready to pounce.

AS believe that Mascarell has asked to move clubs this summer, with Wolves already making contact about a deal, whilst he could cost just €5million (£4.3million) given that he is inside the final 18 months of his contract.

With Schalke routed to the bottom of the league and in real danger of relegation, could the former Ram be a good fit for Nuno Espírito Santo’s side?
