Derby County predicted lineup, team and injury news as David Ozoh rested for Chesterfield clash

Derby County will be looking to correct the mistakes of their loss to Blackburn Rovers.

The Rams suffered a poor defeat at the hands of Blackburn Rovers, as they lost 4-2 in the opening game of the Championship season.

Some did impress for Paul Warne’s side, including Crystal Palace loanee David Ozoh, as well as Ben Osborn, who was praised by his former manager Paul Heckingbottom.

However, in the end Derby County were quite simply outdone and outclassed as the reality check of returning to the Championship hit them hard, and Warne has since looked to bolster his options with the signing of a striker, with Luton Town’s Cauley Woodrow linked with a move to Pride Park.

Whilst Warne considers fresh recruits, all focus is still on the Rams’ Carabao Cup clash against League Two side Chesterfield, and it is expected that changes are widespread across the side.

Derby County team and injury news vs Chesterfield

Whilst Derby County fans will be eager to see Jerry Yates be given his Derby County debut, he will miss a further two games due to suspension from a red card that he was given at the end of the 2023/24 Championship season with Swansea City.

As for injuries, Ebou Adams is set to be fully fit after not being risked with a full 90 minutes against Blackburn Rovers, however there remains doubt over Derby County wide-man Joe Ward, who missed games during pre-season as a result of fluid on the knee, which as a result has left very few options of players to provide the width for Warne’s side.

How will Derby County line up against Chesterfield

With very little choice for Warne but to opt with goalkeeper Josh Vickers, he retains his place in the side despite shipping four goals at the weekend.

Three of Derby County’s defenders will retain their spot in the starting lineup, however Eiran Cashin might make way for Sonny Bradley after what was a fairly poor performance from the usually dependable centre-back.

As for midfield changes, it will be likely to see both David Ozoh and Ben Osborn rested after playing a significant part in the opening game of the season, whilst new signing Adams and Liam Thompson enter the fray.

As previously mentioned, wide options are very limited at this moment, which as a result will likely lead to both Nathaniel Mendez-Laing and Tom Barkhuizen keeping their place in the squad, however Kayden Jackson will likely be rested in place for James Collins.
