Derby County confirmed their place in the knockout rounds of the EFL Trophy with a 4-1 win over Wolves under-21s, with Darren Robinson starring.
The Rams took a 1-0 lead into half-time with James Collins scoring in the 43rd minute.
Wolves managed to peg the Rams back in the 49th minute through substitute Josh Esen, but Collins scored another two to complete his hat-trick.
Youngster Tony Weston, who came off the bench, scored his first goal for the club to secure the win on Wednesday night and subsequently Derby’s place in the knockout rounds.
But one man who starred was Darren Robinson.
Robinson shines for Derby
Robinson made his first competitive start for the first team, with manager Paul Warne heavily rotating from Sunday’s draw against Crewe Alexandra on Sunday afternoon.
He was one of three players to be given their first starts, with Adebayo Fapetu and Dajaune Brown also given a chance to impress.
Whilst Collins will take all the plaudits for his hat-trick, Robinson really ran the show. He was given a 7.4/10 rating on SofaScore.
The Northern Ireland under-21 international started on the right hand side of a back three alongside Eiran Cashin and Sonny Bradley, as Paul Warne changed formation from his usual 4-2-3-1 to a 3-5-2.
Defensively the 18-year-old was competent, making five tackles and two clearances.
He was also heavily involved in possession, completing 66 passes, and making 92 touches, more than any other player on the pitch.
His performance, along with Fapetu, Brown and all the other youngsters that impressed, will certainly give Paul Warne something to think about when it comes to selecting his match day squad for Saturday.
