According to the Rotherham Advertiser, Rotherham United are lining up a loan move for former Derby County target Liam Lindsay from Stoke City.

The Scotland international was highly regarded during his time at Barnsley.

According to The Sun in 2019, Derby were keen on his signature but ended up missing out to Stoke City as the Potters secured a £2 million move for the central defender.

But Linday’s spell at the Bet365 Stadium hasn’t gone as expected.

The 25-year-old struggled to get going in the Championship last term, starting just 17 games. And this season, he has been removed completely from Stoke’s first-team squad.

Lindsay, ironically, hasn’t featured for Stoke since their 4-0 defeat at Derby last January.

Now, out of Michael O’Neill’s plans, Lindsay has been lined up for an exit with the Rotherham Advertiser claiming Rotherham United are keen on a loan deal.

The Millers are one place below Derby as they sit second bottom of the Championship. Derby host Rotherham in a crunch game at Pride Park this coming weekend.

Rotherham’s problems this season hasn’t as such been scoring goals but keeping them out at the other end. Paul Warne’s side have conceded 29 in 20 games.

They may view Lindsay as an ideal signing to bolster their defensive options.

Derby, on the other hand, have been defensively decent of late under Wayne Rooney. The Rams have only conceded two goals in their last seven Championship encounters.

With Matt Clarke and Andre Wisdom performing well, it’s possible Lindsay would have suffered a similar fate at Pride Park. Missing out on him may be seen as a lucky escape.
