Some Derby County supporters have taken to Twitter to comment on the performance of Chris Martin in the Rams’ 3-1 win at Sheffield Wednesday.
Derby headed into the game winless in four but stunned the hosts early on.

Two goals from Tom Lawrence and another from Jason Knight gave the Rams a commendable half-time lead. In all honesty, it could have been five or six.
While Martin didn’t score, he was heavily involved with a hat-trick of assists. His performance prompted some fans to call for a new contract for the striker.

Well done Derby. Finally took our chances when on top and defended well to see it out. Great way to go into the Man Utd game. Oh, and Chris Martin is still good enough. #dcfcfans #dcfc

Any calls for Martin to get a new deal now are absolutely not based on nostalgia. Cocu likes a focal point and Martin is still one of the best around. Get him signed up! #dcfc #dcfcfans

Chris Martin’s current deal expires at the end of the season.
Martin has been brought back into the Derby fold under Phillip Cocu after a difficult past three seasons. He was cast aside or loaned out by former managers.
But under Cocu, the Scotland international is showing the sort of form which made him Derby’s leading scorer and assist maker between 2013-16.
Martin has seven goals and six assists in 17 Championship starts.
His form warrants a new deal. However, being one of Derby’s higher earners, the 31-year-old leaves the club in a tricky spot over his immediate future.
