According to a report in The Times, Derby County have offered a contract to Todd Kane.

The Chelsea right-back is out of contract this summer and he has been the subject of heavy interest. Kane’s future with the Blues seems over after struggling to break through but there is still a future for him in the upper echelons of English football.

The Times claim Derby are one of several teams to have offered the 25-year-old a deal. The Rams already have two right-backs on their books, so targeting Kane could have some repercussions.

Right now, Jayden Bogle is Derby’s number one right-back. The 18-year-old came through the academy to the first-team last season, impressing many at Pride Park in his debut campaign as a senior.

Bogle contributed with two goals and eight assists as Derby reached the playoff final at Wembley. His excellent performances have reportedly attracted £10 million interest from Premier League duo Brighton and Burnley.

Is Andre Wisdom’s Derby County career coming to an end?

But with Derby unlikely to sell unless a silly offer arrives, the reported interest in Kane could spell bad news for Andre Wisdom.

The former Liverpool man joined Derby on a permanent deal having previously spent a season on-loan at Pride Park. Wisdom was a Gary Rowett signing, and he joined to be a part of a tall, solid backline.

Frank Lampard’s arrival last summer, however, prompted a change in the playing style at Derby. Wisdom was immediately cast aside as the Rams started to utilise their fullbacks in a more attack-minded system.

Wisdom, 26, made just nine Championship starts last season. He isn’t a player who fits in with Derby’s current model, and that doesn’t look like changing even if Lampard ends up moving to Chelsea this summer.
