According to TEAMtalk, Bristol City will rival the likes of Derby County and Middlesbrough for Peterborough United’s Marcus Maddison if they lose Josh Brownhill.

Brownhill has been one of City’s best players this season. His displays have reportedly attracted Premier League trio Burnley, Southampton and Bournemouth ahead of January.

Bristol City won’t want to lose their captain. However, in Posh ace Marcus Maddison, they may have a potential bargain lined up as his replacement.

Maddison has been the subject of plenty of speculation. His contract at Peterborough expires next summer, while he has a current release clause of just £2.5 million.

The 26-year-old has proven he is too good for League One. In 16 starts, he has posted an impressive nine goals and six assists while predominantly playing as a number 10.

TEAMtalk claim Derby, West Bromwich Albion and Middlesbrough are keen on him, while the latter recently saw a cheeky £350,000 bid turned down.

The Rams need an injection of quality in their side. Phillip Cocu’s men have scored just 21 goals in 23 games this season, with a lack of creativity an evident problem.

The loss of loan stars Mason Mount and Harry Wilson have had a big effect.

Maddison could be a very good option to explore in January. Former Peterborough striker Jack Marriott knows him well, and he no doubt could do with the extra service.

But Derby’s chances of signing him appear slimmer with more clubs eyeing him up. Bristol City, meanwhile, are a better bet for a Championship promotion push this season.
