The former England international has been Acosta’s teammate in Washington, and he seemingly wants the Argentine to follow him to Pride Park.

Acosta’s contract is set to expire at DC United and he will leave in December. He told Argentine radio La Mano de Dios that joining Derby could be a potential option.

We are analyzing proposals with my representative, there is nothing defined yet. I’m waiting for Boca’s call.  Rooney before leaving told me he wants to take me to Derby County. Today I would go there, but if you call me from Boca, obviously the doors are always open.

Luciano Acosta makes a name for himself in the MLS:

Acosta came through the Boca Juniors academy before going on to sign for DC United. During his spell in the MLS, the attacker has netted 21 goals in 95 games.

The 25-year-old made a big name for himself in the US. Earlier this year, he was wanted by PSG and Acosta claims he was on the verge of a move to Paris.

I did the medical check-up, they gave me the number I was going to use. It was all done but DC United did not accept the offer and the move was stopped.

Derby have lacked creativity this season and Acosta could be a fine addition. The Argentine can play either as an attacking midfielder or out wide.

Phillip Cocu’s side are currently down in lower midtable in the Championship. Despite a strong home form, the Rams struggle to score goals on the road.

The void left by Mason Mount and Harry Wilson is obvious to see. Cocu will be hoping Rooney can make a difference in that department upon his arrival in January.
