Derby County and Blackburn Rovers have missed out on the signing of Manchester United’s George Tanner as he joins Salford City on loan until the end of the season.
Both the Rams and Blackburn were reportedly keen on the player.
The Manchester Evening News claimed the Championship duo had sent enquiries about Tanner. The 20-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season.

It was suggested United would bring him back from his loan at League Two side Morecombe to sell him this month, rather than lose him for a compensation fee next summer.
Portsmouth and New York Red Bulls were also cited as suitors. However, Salford City have won the race for his signature, bringing him back to League Two on loan.
MORE DERBY STORIES
Tanner is predominantly a right-back. He came through the United youth ranks and featured regularly for the U23 side before joining Morecombe on loan last summer.
The United youngster featured in over 20 league games for Morecombe.
Derby and Blackburn have may been looking at him for their U23 teams.
The Rams currently have one of the best academies in England. The U18s won the Premier League Cup last season, while the U23s are going strong this season.
Players like Max Bird, Max Lowe, Jayden Bogle, Morgan Whittaker and Jason Knight have broken through to Derby’s first team over the past 18 months.

Tanner’s deal at Salford is a loan one. Perhaps the Rams and Championship rivals Blackburn will revisit his situation at the end of the current campaign.
