Derby County could be in for another academy success if last season is anything to go by.
Dajaune Brown made a handful of appearances for the senior team before joining Gateshead on loan in January.
The ‘spectacular’ striker had netted 21 goals in 33 matches for Derby County’s academy team before linking up with the National League outfit.
Brown went onto bag eight goals and seven assists in 21 matches for Gateshead, which included scoring an extra-time equaliser as they lifted the FA Trophy.
The youngster was in high demand over the summer but stayed at Pride Park, picking up one start in the Carabao Cup and a further two cameos across all competitions.

Derby County gem joins Gateshead on loan
It now appears that Derby are looking to replicate Brown’s blueprint, with the club confirming that Ben Radcliffe has joined Gateshead until January.
The midfielder has been heavily involved in the Rams’ Under-21 squad so far this season but will now look to rack up some minutes in senior football.
Radcliffe is yet to make his debut for Derby but was an unused substitute in League One three times last term.
Gateshead currently sit top of the National League, so it could be a good opportunity for the 20-year-old to get involved in a promotion push.
However, having won five of their opening seven games, Radcliffe could find it difficult to force his way into the starting line-up.
Gateshead will have a very busy schedule for the rest of the year though, so he will have to take his opportunity when it eventually comes.
The importance of senior football
Derby have clearly formed a good relationship with The Tynesiders and will be hoping Radcliffe can enjoy similar success to his teammate. If all goes to plan, perhaps the Rams can continue sending their academy players up north.
The Rams have brought a number of exciting players through the academy in the past, but Brown’s time at Gateshead proves just how important it is to play senior football in order to aid your development.
Lots of footballers are expected to make the jump up from the U21s to senior football and struggle, but players like Brown and Radcliffe could have an advantage in the future if they have gained some confidence and ability in the National League.
