Derby County have enjoyed a busy week after making their second and third summer signing.
The Rams already signed Ben Osborn on a free transfer, before going onto snap up Kayden Jackson and Jerry Yates in a bid to bolster their attack.
The pair spent last season in the Championship with Ipswich and Swansea respectively, netting eleven goals in total.
Derby County are looking to revamp their whole squad in a bid to avoid an immediate relegation and have been looking further afield for a new midfielder.
The Rams have lost Conor Hourihane, Korey Smith and Ebou Adams this summer and were reportedly looking at Stefan Teitur Thordarson as an option to bolster their squad depth.
Derby County miss out on Stefan Teitur Thordarson
Tipsbladet journalist Farzam Abolhosseini wrote on X: “Derby County have struggled to sign Stefan Teitur Thordarson, but it is Queens Park Rangers who will get him. Silkeborg has accepted an offer from Marti Cifuentes’ club, and the player will travel to England on Sunday and make the final arrangements.”
The report from Tipsbladet also claims that Preston North End were interested in signing the 25-year-old.
Thordarson has been at Danish club Silkeborg since 2020, winning promotion to the Superliga in his first campaign.
The Iceland international has racked up 126 appearances for Silkeborg and picked up 13 goal contributions last season.
With his contract expiring later this year, he now looks set to seal a move to the Championship. However, he favours a move to the English capital rather than Pride Park.
The Rams need to sign Championship quality
Choosing QPR seems like a fair decision given their location and also the high reputation of Cifuentes, while he won’t want to drop down to League One if the Rams were relegated.
Derby do need to sign some players of his quality though and need to work hard to tempt Championship quality to the club if they are in with any chance of staying in the division.
Midfielders should be a priority after signing Osborn, but they will now have to look elsewhere to snap up his teammate.
