According to the Derby Telegraph, Derby County have contacted Liverpool about bringing Harry Wilson back on loan.

The Wales international spent last season on a season-long loan deal at Pride Park. Wilson had a big impact with the Rams, topping the club’s scoring charts with an impressive 18 goals.

Alongside Chelsea duo Fikayo Tomori and Mason Mount, Wilson was influential in Derby’s bid for promotion. The winger scored and assisted in that memorable 4-2 win at Leeds United in the playoff second leg.

Many Derby supporters would be delighted to have him back at Pride Park for another year. Derby are light on numbers due to several departures this summer, and Wilson’s quality is unquestionable.

Will Liverpool allow Harry Wilson to leave on loan?

Much depends, however, on whether Wilson is likely to break through at Liverpool this season. Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah are certain to be the Reds’ front three.

Beyond those, though, Liverpool’s natural options out wide are slim. Xherdan Shaqiri is a top-class player, but Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adam Lallana naturally feature in more central roles.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp included Wilson in two pre-season games so far, suggesting he may have a role for him at Anfield this season.

Derby have nothing to lose by trying to get him back. New manager Phillip Cocu must strengthen the squad this summer, and the lack of natural wide players is an area for concern.

The Rams began their pre-season with a 2-0 win over Sarasota in the US. Florian Jozefzoon and Tom Lawrence started the game as wingers, while Mason Bennett came on in the second period.
