Sheffield Wednesday goalkeeper Cameron Dawson told BBC Radio Sheffield he is keen to sign a new contract with the club amid reports linking him with Derby County among others.

The 24-year-old’s contract at Hillsborough expires next summer.

According to The Star, Derby County, Preston North End and Scottish side Rangers are among the clubs monitoring his situation ahead of next summer.

Dawson, however, has set his sights on a new deal with the Owls. He claimed while contract talks haven’t yet begun, he has had positive discussions over his future.

I’ve had a lot of talks with the manager, some really open, positive talks. But in terms of contract talks, that’s not started yet but that’s something I’m quite easy about to be honest. I’m at a great football club here. Of course, I’m always open to contract talks. It hasn’t started yet but, if and when, that would be great.

Sheffield Wednesday boss Garry Monk echoed his goalkeeper’s comments.

Yeah, I’ve obviously spoken with the club. And yeah, obviously, he’s a player with the age he is and where he’s at for the club, we see him here. The long-term future is with Cameron, and we’ve got Joey (Joe Wildsmith) coming back now to fitness, so two really good young goalkeepers. They’re the future of the club.

Derby will look to bring in a new goalkeeper next summer.

Ben Hamer, who will start against Backburn Rovers on Saturday, is on loan from Huddersfield Town while questions have been asked of former number one Kelle Roos.

Roos has been Derby’s first choice for much of the campaign. However, after several mistakes, manager Phillip Cocu opted to drop him last weekend.

Roos has a weakness in dominating his area. The Dutchman, despite standing at 6ft 5inch, is a target at set-pieces and crosses due to his poor handling and aerial command.

Dawson would have been a likely improvement. But with the former Owls academy man set on staying at Wednesday, the Rams will have to move on to other targets.
