Derby County look as though they’re closing in on their first bit of January transfer business; what fans will hope is the first of many signings this month.

Derby County have had a very subdued start to the January transfer window. But it doesn’t appear to be for a lack of trying.

There’s a number of reports flying around that suggest the Rams are hard at work in the market, and that a few deals could get done in the final two weeks of this month.

And Paul Warne confirmed today that his side are set to renew the loan stay of Arsenal man Tyreece John-Jules, marking the club’s first bit of transfer business in 2024.

Here we round up all the latest Derby County transfer news…

Charlie Savage rumours untrue, says Paul Warne

One player linked with Derby County this month is Reading midfielder Charlie Savage.

Son of former Rams midfielder Robbie, the 20-year-old has been tipped to leave Reading amid their ongoing issues off the pitch, but Warne has recently denied his club’s interest in Savage.

Michael Smith deal tipped to ‘get done’

A striker looks like a priority for Derby County this month with James Collins being Warne’s only fit and firing option right now, with injuries to the likes of Conor Washington and Martyn Waghorn.

And one name linked with a potential switch to Pride Park is Sheffield Wednesday man Michael Smith.

The big striker previously shone under Warne at Rotherham United and scored 18 in League One last season as the Owls earned promotion.

Derby wanted him in the summer and are keen on signing him again this month, and journalist Darren Witcoop has predicted that the Rams get a deal over the line for the 32-year-old.
