Aberdeen manager Derek McInnes has brushed off reports linking reported Derby County and Stoke City target Sam Cosgrove with the New York Red Bulls, Evening Express report.

Cosgrove has been heavily linked with a move away from Aberdeen this month.

According to Evening Express, Championship trio Derby County, Stoke City and Middlesbrough are keen on the striker who can’t stop scoring this season.

But in the past few days, New York Red Bulls are said to have joined the race.

Speaking to the Evening Express, McInnes dismissed chances of a move to the MLS.

I am led to believe they (New York Red Bulls) have been watching him. I am led to believe he is a player of interest but there has been no offer or any conversations with our chairman about that. Whether we anticipate offers, it might well come in. But I don’t think that is the next destination for Sam when he leaves Aberdeen, the MLS.

Sam Cosgrove proves to be a bargain for Aberdeen:

Cosrove has been in excellent form this season. He has netted more than 20 goals in all competitions and looks set to break a Dons scoring record dating back to the 70s.

The 23-year-old former Everton academy striker stands at 6ft 2inch. He drew comparisons with Duncan Ferguson during his early days at Goodison Park.

After his release from Everton, Cosgrove moved to Carlisle United before joining Aberdeen for £25,000. He has turned out to be a bargain for the Scottish club.

Derby, Stoke and Boro have all been linked with the player. The Championship trio have struggled this season, with a lack of goals stopping them from pushing up the table.

The Rams are the third lowest scorers in the league with 29 goals in 28 games. However, a five-game unbeaten run has seen them move 12 points clear of Stoke in 21st.
