A Championship manager’s recent comments could potentially spell bad news for Derby County.

Derby County have some players who’ve attracted interest ahead of this month’s transfer window.

One is Eiran Cashin who’s had ongoing links to Brighton, and another is Max Bird who was wanted by Hull City in the summer, with later reports suggesting that the Tigers would move again in this transfer window.

And recent comments from Hull boss and former Derby County assistant-turned-boss Liam Rosenior could spell potentially devastating news for Derby where Bird is concerned.

Liam Rosenior reveals Hull City transfer boost

Speaking to BBC Humberside ahead of his side’s FA Cup clash against Birmingham City this weekend, Rosenior said on his side’s transfer plans:

“I’m not going to lie, I’m excited right now. I got a good bit of news, [that] I can’t disclose, pretty much within the last half an hour. I’m quietly very, very, excited about this window.”

And on the subject of Bird, Rams boss Paul Warne said at the start of this month:

“We’ve had a casual interest in Birdy and some offers that the board has kindly rejected. There have been offers for Cash (Eiran Cashin) too and again when I had the board meeting, I said I want to keep my best players here and not sell them unless I have to.”

Bird remains out of contract at the end of this season but it’s thought that the Rams would receive a sizeable compensation fee for him should he leave as a free agent, meaning that the club are keen to retain his serves this month.

Rosenior comments could spell bad news for Derby County

Rosenior knows Bird well from his time at Pride Park.

He wanted to bring him to Hull in the summer but saw multiple bids rejected. Since, it’s been revealed that Hull remain keen on Bird and so he’s clearly a prime target for the Tigers.

And Rosenior certainly appears to be excited by this latest update he’s been handed and putting two and two together could suggest that his side have made a breakthrough in their bid to sign key target Bird.

It remains speculative, but it may certainly be a worry for Derby County fans as Bird leaving would be a huge hit to Warne and his side’s promotion credentials.

He’s once again been a key player this season with two goals and three assists in 19 League One outings, and with the likes of Elliot Embleton having returned to Sunderland and central midfielders not being in particularly good supply at Derby, Bird would definitely need replacing.

The Rams go up against Fleetwood Town in League One this weekend.
